My Brick Walls

Introduction

The individuals or families listed below are some of the stumbling blocks or dead ends that I've encountered during my research. I would be grateful for any clues that could help to further the research and get me past these particular brick walls. Thanks!

Layton

Henry Layton of Chatham, NB: Helen Emma Layton (ca Apr 1824 to 28 Jan 1871) married James Gourlie (30 Jan 1816 to 30 Jan 1897) at Chatham, NB, on 4 July 1842. She was said to be the "second daughter of Henry Layton." However, I have not found any record of this Henry Layton or any of his other children.

Murray

John Murray and Sarah MacGillivary of Argyle Shore, NS: John was said to have been born in Ireland and his wife, Sarah, in Nova Scotia. Sarah's maiden name comes from the death record of one of her children. They had at least four children, including: Joseph (married Sadie Daniels), Rosa (married William Armour), John Vincent (married Margaret Sarah Danery), and my great-grandmother, Christina (married James Bonnell). Their children are said to have been born in Antigonish County, NS, New Brunswick, and Maine. I've been able to trace the children and their descendants, but have hit a stumbling block with John and Sarah and their ancestors.
