I Seek Not Immortality

I seek not immortality
Nor does it seek me.

There is no permanence in life or
Spirit. The only certainty at birth is
Death, quietly waiting its turn.

What marks I leave will erode with
Wind and water and time,
Returning to the dust from whence we came.

I, too, will erode. And loved ones will
Meet their graves. Some later, some sooner,
But all will join me in the dust.

Memories will cloud with years
And fade through generations.
Our spirit fades with them.

Leaving nothing.
